Team Member Information
Alex Allen is a senior Running Back on the Akron Zips football roster. Alex Allen’s leadership is noted on the field in games and in practice and other plays look up to him for direction and motivation. As one of only six true freshman to play in the Akron Zips 2005 Championship season, Allen made a name for himself early on. He saw playing time in all 13 games that season and put himself on the map as a vital part of the Akron Zips team.
Then in the 2006 season Alex Allen suffered a knee injury in pre-season practice and had to take a medical red shirt. After sitting out a season and battling back at the beginning of the 2007 season Alex Allen led the Zips in rushing touch-downs scoring seven of the team’s eleven ground touch-downs. A season highlight for Alex Allen was being named the MAC East Player of the Week before a game against Ohio, where he scored a career high 3 touchdowns leading the Akron Zips to a victory. Allen finished the season strong and sealed his fate as a critical part of the Akron Zips football team.
A strong start in 2008 turned out to be, unfortunately, ended by yet another injury. This time, Alex Allen's hip stopped him from further play that season.
Head Coach Rob Ianello is surely looking to Alex Allen for leadership on the field and to set an example for the younger players who are fighting to stand in the shadows and one day fill the shoes of this great athlete.
