Richard Sandilands is a returning junior for the Akron Zips football team who plays as a wide receiver. Before signing a letter of intent with the University of Akron, Richard played high school football at New Philadelphia High School in New Philadelphia, Ohio. He was named first-team All-Ohio as a senior, also bagging District Player of the Year and Region Player of the Year titles. On offense he caught 56 receptions for 950 yards, scoing 15 touchdowns and on the defensive side he pulled down 97 tackles with four interceptions. He also participated in the Ohio State Track meet and set the record for the 110 hurdles and the 4x100 relay.
In 2006, Richard Sandilands joined the University of Akron Zips program but sat out for the season on a redshirt status. In 2007 he appeared in three games , the match-up against Connecticut, Temple and Central Michigan where he caught his first career pass. Throughout the season he also served as a backup holder, cementing his status as a true team player.
Richard Sandilands appeared in four games last season, making important plays and helping the Akron Zips find success against multiple teams including Toledo. This season he is hoping to prove to Head Coach J.D. Brookhart that he deserves more game time. With several great players in the wide receiver position it will be an uphill battle but on that Richard is definitely capable of.
