Team Member Information
Ryan Bain is a standout transfer student from the University of Iowa who now plays on the defensive line for the Akron Zips. Ryan Bain joined the Akron Zips in August of 2007 but had to sit out during the 2007 season due to NCAA transfer rules but did practice with the team, helping him to truly become an Akron Zips player. He saw some game time in the 2008 season but is hoping for much more in the upcoming 2009 season, which considering his size and skill should be likely! Akron fans everywhere are excited to see Ryan Bain on the field and in an Akron Zips jersey!
While at the University of Iowa he was one of five true freshman to play. Ryan pulled down several tackles including his first three sacks. He also played in the Outback Bowl verses Florida. After spring practice in 2006, Ryan Bain was listed as a second team defensive tackle and saw action in several games including the 41-7 season opener against Montana, where he was part of the defense that held Montana to 1- net yards rushing and 144 yards total offense. Ryan Bain was also instrumental in several other games that season including the Syracuse match-up and the Alamo Bowl against Texas.
The University of Akron coaching staff including Head Coach J.D. Brookhart are constantly praising Ryan Bain for his leadership on and off the field and are excited to see what he can do with his two years of Akron Zips eligibility. Ryan Bain was recently listed as a second team preseason All-MAC selection by the MAC Report Online.
